The mission to Nairobi lasts for two weeks, though I am actually teaching the course on Ezekiel for only one of them.

During Week 1, I observed Dr. David Galletta’s course on Preaching Christ from the Old Testament at Common Ground Theological Institute (CTI), and it was very enriching for me. I was able to see a veteran pastor-scholar-teacher in action, and I was able to get a sense for the students’ personalities, prior knowledge, and cultural background.

Students work in groups to analyze passages from different epochs of OT history. David is seated with one of the groups that is discussing a passage from 2 Kings.

I was able to preach a sermon this morning for the chapel service. For class, the students presented their analyses of various passages, and some of the presentations turned into impromptu sermons. Then they had their final exam.

A student named Faith is presenting the exegetical point, heart-problem, gospel-solution, and homiletical idea on behalf of her group.

Most of the students stay on CTI’s campus during the week. Students are generally not able to stay on the campus over the weekend, so they all left today after the exam and (most) will return on Tuesday for my course.

This weekend, I assume that I will not be able to write a blog because we are traveling to Loitokitok (a.k.a. Oloitokitok) on the Tanzanian border to the south. David and I will be teaching a Bible lesson and preaching in separate churches on Sunday, and then we will lead two parts of a “seminar” on Monday morning.

Please pray that the Lord would empower me and David to teach and preach effectively through translation; that the Lord would give us a safe trip (Bekah is coming, too!); and that the Lord would keep me in good health for my teaching assignment next week.

I plan to get Bekah doing some blogging next week, since I will probably be at my limit with teaching and grading.
